The Chicago Cubs will try to lock down a series win today against the Mariners, and they’ve got the right guy on the mound to do it, right?
Well, here’s the crazy thing: despite pitching better lately and, you know, being Jake Arrieta, the Cubs haven’t won a game started by their ace since June. To me, that streak is nearly as crazy as the one where the Cubs won 23 straight times Arrieta started.
Whether it changes or not, of course, won’t be entirely up to Arrieta. Hopefully the bats didn’t use up all their offense in yesterday’s blowout win. They’ll be without Anthony Rizzo, though, who is getting a breather.
Wade Miley starts for the Mariners in a year that has been unkind to him. After being traded to the Red Sox in the offseason before 2015, Miley immediately signed an extension with his new team … and then they traded him after the season. Since coming to the Mariners, Miley’s been, well, very bad.
