With the Cubs heading out to Oakland (and thus, the American League), they’ll get the benefit of a designated hitter tonight – which couldn’t have come at a better time. Why? Because Jorge Soler was just reactivated from the disabled list and steps immediately into the DH role. Had his return coincided with an NL series, it might have been a bit more challenging to squeeze him immediately back into the fold (especially considering the recent success of Javy Baez and Willson Contreras).
This provides the Cubs with a few days to ease Soler back into action and see how well he’s re-adapting to Major League pitching. It’s pretty much an ideal scenario, and I really can’t wait to see him back in there. The Cubs are almost at full-strength, once again. It’s been so long.
Jon Lester takes the mound, Ben Zobrist bats cleanup, Jorge Soler is back, and we’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
