Jorge Soler Rockets a Three-Run Homer in His First At Bat Back from DL (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

A full hour before the Cubs’ game against the A’s started last night, I was struggling.

The Wife and I had taken the kids to an amusement park for the day, which was a fun, but exhausting affair. My body is still feeling the residual aftereffects of the 39-hour Blogathon earlier in the week, and, with Cubs/A’s not starting until after 10pm my time, I knew I was going to be in trouble.

So I can’t blame myself too much for falling asleep with the TV on shortly before the Cubs game began, something I’m not sure has ever happened to me before.

The cruel, cruel twist is that, not 10 minutes before, I was lamenting to The Wife that if I did fall asleep, I would miss Jorge Soler’s return from the disabled list. And I quipped that he might hit a homer in his first at bat, and it would be brutal to miss that. One of the last things I remember saying to her was something like, “But there’s, what, a 5% chance of that happening?”

Well, Brett, it happened:

That’s not a bad pitch, but Soler goes down and rips it with his incredible bat speed, and sends out a 108.1mph rocket out to left.

Welcome back, Jorge Soler.

The shot was very much what Soler does – a laser beam that never got higher than 52 feet (the lowest homer of the night in baseball), but still somehow got out of the park.
