Willson Contreras Crushes Three-Run Homer, Shortening Adam Wainwright’s Day (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

St. Louis Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright lasted just two innings today against the Chicago Cubs, his shortest outing of the year. He’d previously not failed to go at least five innings.

Today, he was jumped by the Cubs’ bats from the word go, and they’d already built a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Willson Contreras came to the plate with two men on.

Wainwright got way too much of the plate with a 90mph fastball, and BOOM:

That ball was gone right off the bat, and wound up way up in the seats at 415 feet – in a hurry, too, at 104 mph.

That’s the 7th homer of the year for the rookie catcher/outfielder, who very much seems to be heating back up.

As for the Cardinals, they’ve had to go to the bullpen already in this one in the third inning, which probably isn’t great given last night’s marathon game.
