Pre-Gamin’: Cardinals at Cubs (1:20 CT) – Lineup, Broadcast Info, Game Thread
Shall we make it a dozen?
After 11 straight wins, including the first two in this series, the Chicago Cubs will look to make it 12 in a row today.
In theory, they’ve got the man on the mound to do the job, as Kyle Hendricks has pitched to better results than any other active pitcher in baseball right now. He’s become a legitimate, albeit outside-looking-in right now, candidate for the Cy Young, and if he keeps cruising like he has been, there’s a real chance he could get his ERA under two.
Opposing Hendricks is rookie Luke Weaver, who is making his big league debut today, having spent most of his season at AA, and started just once at AAA. In the minors this year, he’s pretty much been as good as it gets, with a strikeout rate near 30% and a walk rate under 4%. Minor league hitters simply haven’t been able to do much of anything against him, though he’ll obviously find the big league Cubs a slightly more daunting challenge.
