Yes, it was a four-game series sweep in which the Cubs outscored the Brewers 23-8, but it seemed like they were pesky the whole series.
Never was that more clear than today, when a very patient Brewers lineup made Cubs pitchers work all day, most notably Jake Arrieta, who issued a career-high seven walks. Arrieta looked very good in the early going, and then it was like a switch flipped, and he could no longer locate his fastball at all. It’s hard to tell how he was working with Willson Contreras, but I’m not sure that really had much to do with Arrieta’s issues. I guess we’ll learn more in time. In any case, the Cubs still managed to take the game with nine runs scored of their own, led of course by Kris Bryant’s perfect day at the plate, featuring two homers. The Cubs also got multi-hit days from Matt Szczur, Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russell, and Javy Baez.
That’s a sweep!
