With one of the sloppiest, ugliest first innings they’ve had in a good long while, the Cubs pretty much put this game out of reach before the second inning had rolled around. The Rockies got their seven-run blowout win to match the one the Cubs hung on them last night. And, since the Rockies were gifted the win on Friday, that means they take the series. The Cubs’ first series loss since before the All-Star break.
Jason Hammel wasn’t quite as bad as that first inning run total makes him look, as he was getting no help – he was getting affirmative hurt, in fact – behind him in the field. I think you just have to throw this one away.[adinserter block=”1″]
Outside of Addison Russell, who homered twice, the Cubs did very little to remember on offense. Each of Spencer Patton and Rob Zastryzny cleaned up well in relief, especially Zastryzny, who recorded five of his eight outs via the strikeout. Yes, he’s gonna be one to watch.
Anyway, on we go …
