Earlier today (just a few hours ago, actually), we discussed the frequent awesomeness of Cubs’ rookie catcher, Willson Contreras. Whether he’s picking base runners off at third, or stretching singles into doubles (seemingly) through pure will, he’s really stolen the attention of a particular set of Cubs fans who already have plenty to cheer about.
Well, he started behind the plate again today, and once again did something awesome – going deep for the eighth time in just over 200 plate appearances.[adinserter block=”1″]

According to Statcast, that ball left the bat of Contreras at 103 MPH and traveled 390 feet due to a launch angle of 26 degrees – giving the Cubs a 6-2 lead in the process. It was Contreras’ eighth of the season and third in the month of August. His season slash line is now up to .271/.354/.443 with 8 homers, a 9.9% walk rate and a 22.6% strikeout rate.
He’s good at the baseball.
