Enhanced Box Score: Dodgers 3, Cubs 2 – August 27, 2016

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs couldn’t quite come back this time, losing by a single run to the Dodgers after a solid pitching performance from youngster Julio Urias and the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Jason Hammel was getting hit a good bit in the third inning, allowing the second and third of the three runs the Dodgers would ultimately score, and was surprisingly lifted from the game before he’d thrown his 40th pitch. The move will be heavily discussed, I suspect, but it made sense from where I sat: with an extremely lefty-heavy Dodgers lineup, the Cubs had the opportunity to bring in lefty Rob Zastryzny for multiple innings with advantageous matchups. And he succeeded.

Offensively, the Cubs got four walks and eight hits, which is not too bad, but all of the hits were singles. That will rarely amount to too much offense, and today it did not.
