Anthony Rizzo last homered on August 14, and that one was his first since a two-homer game all the way back on July 20. In other words, until tonight, Rizzo had homered more on July 20 than he had in all of August.
But I say “until tonight,” because Rizzo ripped a line shot to right in the first inning to give the Cubs an early lead against the Pirates. [adinserter block=”1″][adinserter block=”10″]
The blast:
That shot was 102mph off the bat, and was Rizzo’s 26th of the year.
During that one-homer stretch from July 21 to tonight, by the way, Rizzo was hitting .301/.365/.434. That’s because, even when the homers weren’t coming, he’s still really dang good.
