Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward get the day off against tough lefty Madison Bumgarner.
That means every single batter in the lineup will bat from the right side against Bumgarner. That’s pretty fun. That includes Jake Arrieta, by the way. That’s double fun.
Willson Contreras gets another chance to catch Arrieta, who has not been at his best with Contreras back there, though it’s still not entirely clear that one has anything to do with the other. It seems like the biggest issue has been getting low strikes for Arrieta, so that’s what you’ll want to watch.
Otherwise, the Cubs’ righties will try to square up Bumgarner today. The game is a huge one for the Giants, who are still fighting for ground in the NL West, while trying to hold onto a Wild Card spot.
