At long last, there’s a break for Kris Bryant, who had a rough day at the plate yesterday after pretty much not having a rough day at the plate for more than a month. In theory, he’ll get more opportunities to rest up down the stretch as the Cubs’ Magic Number shrinks to zero and playoff preparations begin in force.
Joining Bryant on the bench is Addison Russell, who has been rested more regularly than Bryant (and it seems to be working well, both in keeping Russell fresh and keeping Javy Baez sharp at shortstop).
Miguel Montero is back in there, as he’s had a lot of success against today’s Brewers starter. In fact, lefties in general have fared well against Wily Peralta in his career, and he’ll face a lot of them today.
