Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 2, Astros 0 – September 9, 2016

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs’ bats were largely stifled in this one, seeming off-balance against Joe Musgrove’s variety of speeds and good movement. The Astros’ bullpen was solid from there, too. The few times the Cubs did give the ball a ride (except once), the dimensions of Minuit Maid Park were not friendly.

Thankfully, the Cubs’ pitching was equal to the task, which Jon Lester having some of the best stuff he’s had all year. Couple that with some great defense behind him, and the Astros just weren’t going to do anything against him.

And then Hector Rondon came in for the 8th, looking as good as he’s looked all year, and Aroldis Chapman finished things off in the 9th. In all, Cubs pitchers struck out 10 batters without issuing a single walk.

The Astros really didn’t have much of a chance.

Oh, and about what little offense the Cubs could muster, some light trolling …
