What comes first:Â the new baby or the Cubs clinching the NL Central?
We aren’t headed to the hospital just yet, but we kinda feel like some things might be happening on the baby front soon, so today could be the day. Or maybe tonight. Or tomorrow. Or next week. Babies, man.
Depending on how things progress, you may or may not hear from me again for a little while. Fear not, because Michael will have the reins until then, so you won’t be missing out on the good stuff around here. Current best bet is that the Bullets still arrive, via me, at the normal time.
Meanwhile, with their win yesterday over the Cardinals, the Cubs’ magic number to clinch the NL Central is just one. That means a win tonight against the Brewers will seal the deal for the Cubs, who’ll get to celebrate at Wrigley Field.[adinserter block=”1″][adinserter block=”10″]
If the Cubs don’t win, they can still clinch today if the Cardinals lose to the Giants. Well, more accurately, they would likely clinch in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, since that game starts at 9:15pm CT.
If that scenario sounds familiar, it’s because that’s what happened last year when the Cubs clinched a Wild Card berth – they lost their game that day against the Pirates, and then a Giants loss on the West Coast later that night clinched it for them. It was fun, but a bit anticlimactic compared to clinching on the field. So here’s hoping the Cubs pull it off on their own against the Brewers, and, if they don’t, perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad thing if the Cardinals won a game.
So, then. Today could be a pretty awesome day, eh? Cubs clinch the Central. The Taylors welcome a new Cubs fan into the world.
Go Cubs. Go baby.
