The Cubs have just six more games at Wrigley Field this (regular) season, the first of which comes tonight.
Jason Hammel takes the ball for Chicago, as they look to preserve their league-leading 94-55 record and win home field advantage for the NL half of the postseason.
Hammel’s last time out wasn’t great (5.2 IP, 4 earned runs, 6 hits (2HRs), 2 walks), but he did strike out 9 batters. It also marked a significant improvement over his previous start, where he allowed eight earned runs in 5.2 innings against Milwaukee. Hopefully, he can tune things up quite a bit, and deliver a couple of solid performances heading into the playoffs.
Tim Adleman has amassed just 51.1 innings through his first ten big league starts and a 4.21 ERA (5.89 FIP). He doesn’t get many ground balls (39.0%) which has been a problem for him, given his 16.7% HR/fly ball ratio. The latter statistic is not entirely within his control, but it certainly is to an extent. Hopefully the Cubs can get the ball in the air, then, and out of the stadium.
First pitch is at 7:05.
