Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 6, Pirates 4 – September 27, 2016

Chicago Cubs

I have written about the Cubs since late 2008, so, yes, I’m familiar with writing late-September Enhanced Box Score posts about games that don’t matter in the standings.

But it’s especially odd this year, because the Cubs are locking down win number 101 rather than loss number 101. (Seriously, that happened back in 2012, though it was actually early October, rather than late September: EBS from that game.)

In any case, a game that had a distinct Spring Training feel went the Cubs’ way, as the defense was just good enough, and the bats did just enough. The pitching was fine until a rocky 9th inning rolled around for Justin Grimm, who didn’t seem to have much (which, like with Hector Rondon last night, was hopefully just a case of a guy who wasn’t quite as locked in/amped up as he would be for a closer, more meaningful game).

Chris Coghlan continued his recent tear, and he’s cemented his place on the playoff roster. And this guy, well, he wants to have a chat …
