The Chicago Cubs have just two games left this regular season, and a chance to reach 104 wins if they take ’em both.
The other arbitrary-but-fairly-meaningful plateau for this weekend is a 20th “win” for Jon Lester, who has never gotten there before. Pitcher “wins” and “losses” are terrible statistics for a litany of reasons, HOWEVA that 20-win mark means a lot to many players, so I’m perfectly comfortable cheering for it today. May the bats be huge, the defense strong, and Lester solid enough to get the W.
The Cubs are going with a pretty typical lineup for Lester starts, by the way, so there’s not necessarily any screwing around. This is probably the lineup you’ll see in the opener of the NLDS, too.
