Finish it the way you lived it. For me, that means I want to die in the nude while eating Funyuns, but for the 2016 Cubs, it means a pleasing and impressive win. They did it 103 times this year.
For a while, it looked like today’s game was going to be another shrug-it-off-because-whatever type game. Kyle Hendricks wasn’t sharp in the early going (and the strike zone was unkind), and through five innings, he allowed enough earned runs to see his ERA rise to a still ridiculous, but no longer sub-two 2.13.
It was an incredible year for Hendricks, and we’ll have more on that later.[adinserter block=”2″]
The Cubs managed to hang around and chip away at the Reds’ lead, but the 9th inning rolled around with the Cubs in a one-run hole. That’s when the collection of reserves and excellent bench players put together a rally, capped off by a two-run Matt Szczur double and a two-run Miguel Montero homer.
The 2016 Cubs, y’all.
