Pre-Gamin’: Giants at Cubs (8:00 CT) – Lineup, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs

Tonight at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs will host the San Francisco Giants in the first of what may ultimately be a five-game NLDS.

Excitement, I have it (nerves, too).

After a brilliant second half (and some solid postseason experience), Jon Lester gets the ball for the Cubs in game one over the 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner (Jake Arrieta) and one of the 2016 candidates for the same award (Kyle Hendricks). The Cubs have some good pitchers.

Although he didn’t quite finish the season on a strong note in Cincinnati, Lester was the NL Pitcher of the Month in September, and is as good a bet as anyone in baseball. Per usual, Lester will pitch to long-time battery-mate David Ross.

Opposing Lester and the Cubs this evening is one of the Giants’ aces, Johnny Cueto. The 30-year-old righty has had another dominant year, and will likely be a tough opponent for the Cubs (who may see him twice, if the series goes to five games). In Cueto’s last start of the season, he struck out eleven Rockies (walking just one) in seven innings of two-run baseball. When he’s on, he’s also one of the very best pitchers in the National League.

A win in game one (with home field advantage) can go a very long way … so, let’s go Cubs!
