The Chicago Cubs stressfully lost their potential clincher last night against the Giants, but they’ll have another go of it tonight.
With another lefty on the mound, the Cubs are taking a similar righty-focused approach to the lineup, with a couple of notable differences.
Chicago Cubs Lineup v. San Francisco Giants (Matt Moore):
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, LF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- David Ross, C
- John Lackey, P

First and foremost, Jason Heyward is back in action in the spacious right field of AT&T Park, which means Ben Zobrist bounces out to left. Javy Baez, then, draws yet another start at second base, and I don’t see him coming out of the lineup anytime soon.
Other than that, the big difference is David Ross behind the plate, catching Lackey instead of Willson Contreras. While Contreras likely has the better bat, he did look a bit, let’s say, amped up over the past few nights, so Ross’ veteran presence (and equal if not better defense behind the plate) won.
