Enhanced Box Score: Dodgers 1, Cubs 0 – October 16, 2016

Chicago Cubs

We pretty much all thought Javy Baez had done it again, didn’t we? And from the reaction shots of the Dodgers, they did, too.

Instead, Baez’s 7th inning would-be two-run, game-changing blast was a fly out to the warning track in center field.

We’ll deconstruct the game much more over the coming days – sigh, no baseball tomorrow – but I have to tell you up front, I’m just not feeling all that bad. Although it’s quite obvious that a win would have been fantastic for the Cubs, this was basically a must-win game for the Dodgers, not only because a 2-0 hole is tough, but because they simply cannot afford to lose a game in this series that is started by Clayton Kershaw.

If you’re salty about anything, it’s the fact that the Cubs used up a game in which they gave up just one run despite so many walks and opportunities for the other team to score. You want to win that game. But the Cubs couldn’t put a run on the board, and that was that.

Series tied. Off to Los Angeles.
