Cubs win. Cubs win. Cubs win.
That was a huge one. With that win in place, the Cubs now get two cracks at a trip to the World Series, and they get both of those cracks at home. Sure, they’ll come against the two pitchers who beat them in this series, but that’s a discussion for another day. Today is a very happy day. [adinserter block=”1″]
The game was incredibly tense for the first five innings, with the Cubs repeatedly failing to cash in on scoring opportunities, and Jon Lester doing his part to keep the Dodgers off the board.
But Addison Russell gave the Cubs a two-run cushion with a sixth inning homer, and then the Cubs went off for five more runs in the 8th inning, largely on the strength of hustling on dribblers and then a bases-loaded Javy Baez double.
All that scoring felt almost superfluous until Pedro Strop and Aroldis Chapman gave up a few runs late, making things just a touch closer than you would have liked.
Cubs win. Cubs win. Cubs win.
