How did I not know this happened?
A big hat tip to Windy Wrigley on Twitter for calling this to mind – it was a moment five years ago, when Jake Arrieta was still a beardless Orioles pitcher and David Ross was a homer-blasting back-up Braves catcher.

With the bases loaded, Arrieta missed his spot out over the middle of the plate, and Ross absolutely crushed it:
Did you catch the bonus appearance by Jason Heyward at the top step to greet Ross with a high five? (Arrieta had struck Heyward out looking earlier in the inning.)
That start for Arrieta came after a month’s worth of solid outings, but started a stretch of six straight rough outings to end his season. From there, Arrieta struggled to establish himself with the Orioles, and was eventually traded to the Cubs in 2013 after the Orioles gave up on him.
So … basically, this David Ross grand slam is the reason the Cubs got Jake Arrieta. Yup. That’s how I’m going to remember it.
