I don’t know that this is going to become a daily thing, but with the middle of winter here, I’m feeling awfully nostalgic already for the 2016 season. So, like yesterday when I was thinking about the incredible comeback in Game 4 of the NLDS, this morning I was thinking back to the beginning of the season, and, specifically, the Cubs’ home opener.
It was cold and miserable in all non-baseball ways – as it pretty much always is, especially when it’s a night game – and, outside of the emotional introduction of Kyle Schwarber (recall, this was shortly after his season-ending injury), there wasn’t anything to enjoy through six no-hit innings by Reds starter Brandon Finnegan (boy did his season go downhill after those first six innings). And then the Cubs rallied, kicked off by David Ross breaking up the no-hitter, notching a couple in the 7th inning, and Addison Russell gave the Cubs the lead with a three-run blast in the 8th:

It came early, but it was undoubtedly one of the best games of 2016.
