The Chicago Cubs have four arbitration-eligible players, and today is the deadline by which the Cubs must agree to a 2017 contract with those players. If no agreement comes by today, the sides must proceed to the next step in the arbitration process: exchanging salary requests for 2017. If no settlement comes after that, the sides will proceed to an arbitration hearing in February, at which an arbitrator will choose either the figure submitted by the team, or the figure submitted by the player. There is no middle ground once you reach the hearing.

We’ll update this post as the day unfolds.
UPDATE: The Cubs have agreed to a deal with Hector Rondon, and Tommy Stokke reports it’s for $5.8 million. That’s just about what the projection was, so that’s that.
UPDATE 2: And there’s a deal with Justin Grimm, too, at $1.825 million (Gordon Wittenmyer). Once again, it’s just over the MLBTR projection.
UPDATE 3: And there’s Arrieta:
Arrieta, cubs agree at $15.6375M
