Some kind of football contest is going on, but clearly former Cubs starter Jason Hammel and the Kansas City Royals don’t care:

We’ll discuss this more tomorrow, but the fit makes obvious sense, especially after the sad, untimely passing of Yordano Ventura. It took a while, but Hammel finally got his multi-year deal after the Cubs declined his team option for 2017. Although he’s 34, has frequently struggled in the second half, and has peripherals that don’t always match the results, Hammel is a perfectly adequate 4th/5th starter on a team with playoff aspirations. Good for him, good for the Royals.
Again, more tomorrow.
UPDATE: OK, just a little more tonight:
Sources: Jason Hammel has a two-year deal with the Royals. Guarantees him $16M. @Ken_Rosenthal had deal first.
