In the wake of Ken Rosenthal’s reports last night that three teams were in on lefty Travis Wood, including the Cubs and Padres, it’s not a surprise to see that the wheels are in motion, especially given that pitches and catchers are reporting to Spring Training this week.

Jon Heyman reports that things could happen quickly, as soon as today:
SP/RP/OF travis wood is expected to sign with someone soon, possibly today
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) February 13, 2017
In his full column, Heyman concurs with Rosenthal that the Padres and Cubs are among the still-involved teams, though Heyman describes the Cubs as “on the periphery.”
As we discussed last night, although Wood would be something of a luxury for the Cubs at this point, there are still many reasons for their interest. And, given that he’s the Cubs’ longest-tenured player at this point, there’s an obvious fan connection there.
We’ll have to keep a close eye on this today.
