The Chicago Cubs (1-2) will take on the Kansas City Royals (3-1) today, but somehow I’m stuck focusing on David Ross’ future appearance on Dancing with the Stars!
Here’s the Cubs’ lineup:
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Jon Jay, LF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Jeimer Candelario, 3B,
- Albert Almora, CF
- Chris Dominguez 1B,
- Victor Caratini, DH
- Matt Szczur, RF
- Munenori Kawasaki, SS

I want to say that the lineup is full of many non-regulars – there’s obviously no Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward, Addison Russell, or Ben Zobrist – but we know that Javy Baez, Jon Jay, and Albert Almora should be seeing a lot more time on the field in 2017 than they did last year and a lot more time than most non-regulars on any other team, given the Cubs flexibility.
Willson Contreras does grab the start behind the plate, though, and will be catching Eddie Butler in his Spring debut. Catch up on Butler’s upside here, because he could still be a big part of the Cubs’ future.
We also get to see Jeimer Candelario, which should be a treat. He’s one of the Cubs prospects most likely to help out off the bench (or in a starting role, if disaster strikes) throughout this upcoming season. He also still has plenty of upside, so keep an eye out.

And finally, Munenori Kawasaki is playing shortstop (see his defensive gem from yesterday here) and batting ninth. He’s also staring in some of the the most hilarious, but confusing Japanese commercials of all time:
