The Cubs play two games today, with half the squad heading to Maryvale to face the Brewers, and the other half sticking around Sloan to play Team Japan.
Here’s the lineup against the Brewers:
- Kyle Schwarber, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Willson Contreras, C
- Tommy La Stella, 2B
- Albert Almora, CF
- Jon Jay, LF
- John Andreoli, DH
Starting Pitcher: Jake Buchanan

And here’s the lineup against Team Japan:
- Munenori Kawasaki, SS
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Matt Szczur, CF
- Miguel Montero, C
- Ian Happ, LF
- Jeimer Candelario, 3B
- Matt Dominguez, 1B
- John Lackey, P
Schwarber gets another look in right field, as the Cubs are clearly aiming to make sure he’s passable out there for times when they want to get another bat out in left field (well, or at least want to see if he’d be better to move over, or if someone like Ben Zobrist is better suited to play right).
Meanwhile, Ian Happ is playing left field in the other game, in a nod to his versatility – he’s mostly been playing second base lately, but obviously he’ll need to move around if he’s going to find playing time at the big league level any time soon.
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
