Hooray! Prospect time!
With minor league seasons kicking off in just a few days, it’s time for the various Cubs affiliates to announce their preliminary rosters. South Bend (Low-A, Full Season) kicked things off today:

You’ll recognize many of the names there as graduating from short-season ball at Eugene last year, including top pitching prospect Dylan Cease, who’s had quite the offseason of (deserved) hype. The hope is that Cease will have a full, healthy season – most likely sticking with South Bend for most or all of it – with the sky being the limit thereafter.
One of the Cubs’ big bonus signings from the 2015 draft is outfielder D.J. Wilson, about whom Luke just wrote earlier today. The infield features two big IFA prospects, Isaac Paredes and Wladimir Galindo.
The team is loaded with advanced college pitchers from last year’s draft (though not top pick, third rounder Thomas Hatch – I wonder if he’ll stick around at extended spring training to shorten up his season, or if he’s going to be challenged all the way up to High-A right out of the gate).
There will be much more to discuss about these prospects – and the rest of the minor league crew! – as the minor league seasons get underway.
