After giving up three runs to the Cardinals in the first inning today, spirits were low. By which I mean YOUR spirits, because you are, by definition, a neurotic and crazy Cubs fan. The Cubs, themselves, know no such low spirits, as they are ready at every turn to mount a comeback.
So it has been today, with a little chipping away, and then the big blow in the form of a mighty swing by Kyle Schwarber:

That baby was a no-doubter up the line, and Schwarber was all too happy to enjoy it. He hasn’t had an opportunity yet in his career to shine against lefties, but he sure looked good there.
Nice leadoff hitter, eh?

By the way, one of the runs scoring on that homer came from Matt Szczur, who struck out. How did he reach base? Well, I can’t call it a “dropped” third strike, because the ball didn’t really hit the ground – it literally got stuck to the middle of Yadi Molina’s chest protector. It was wild.
