Someone once told me, or wrote, or something along those lines, that the first million words you write are worthless. If that is true, then at some point this year my prose will magically transform into something you could base a currency on.
As best I can figure, some time this summer I’ll write my 1,000th article for Bleacher Nation. And since my articles likely average a bit over 1,000 words per, that means I should also be hitting my millionth word by the end of the season. Do you think the Pulitzer committee keeps track of that sort of thing, or should I give them a call?
I don’t normally talk about RBIs. It is one of the most generally cited baseball stats, but for the purpose of evaluating individual players it is also one of the most useless. It is a truism, though, that good offensive teams produce players with high RBI totals. And that means we should probably stop and take notice that Jeimer Candelario has collected 5 RBIs three times already this season. He has only played in seven games. Interestingly, the only games in which he has an RBI are the three in which he piled up five of them.
Brad Markey has pitched four innings so far in relief, allowed one hit and struck out eight. Naturally, I just left him off the latest round of the Top 40.
