The Cubs’ bullpen gets a boost for tonight’s series opener against the Brewers, as Carl Edwards Jr. returns from the bereavement list. In his absence – though not necessarily because of it – the Cubs’ bullpen had a rough go of it, and the team was swept at home by the Pirates.
Edwards will take the place of infielder Tommy La Stella, who himself heads to the bereavement list after the death of his grandmother (Sahadev Sharma).
Sincere well-wishes and condolences to the La Stella family.

La Stella will be away for three to seven games, per the list’s rules, which means the Cubs will eventually be faced again with a decision on the roster – whether to stay at eight in the bullpen and try to option La Stella (or lose Matt Szczur), or drop back down to seven relievers.
