As it was this weekend, I can’t look at a game like tonight’s – even a sloppy, bleh game like tonight’s – and say that it is representative of anything other than a loss in that particular game. I still believe this is a good Cubs team, I still see the other ways the random bounces can go that change a game, and I still … well, I still think it sucks to lose four in a row at Wrigley Field to NL Central opponents. No way around that part.

John Lackey was giving up some elevated, hard contact early, and that resulted in three homers despite the cold, wind-blowing-in conditions. He righted the ship by the middle innings as he has all year, but by then, the Brewers had the four runs they would ultimately need to win. They also got a couple more late off of Mike Montgomery (and a Willson Contreras throwing error).
The Cubs’ bats were mostly silent once again (the most enjoyable contact arguably came via the two softest bits of contact – bunts by Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo), with a clutch Albert Almora double and a bloop Ben Zobrist single scoring the team’s only runs. Jason Heyward was really ripping the ball tonight, which is great to see, but like that time last week against these same Brewers (albeit not as extreme), he didn’t have much to show for it.
