Chicago Cubs Lineup: Okay, Let’s See if THIS Works – Russell Gets a Breather, Javy Covers Short

Tonight, the Chicago Cubs will try to stop the bleeding of a four-game losing streak that started at the hands of the Pirates and culminated at its peak last night against the Brewers.

Joe Maddon is shaking things up though, with a couple of fresh faces and a nights off for Addison Russell, Willson Contreras, and Albert Almora Jr.

Here’s the Cubs lineup:

  1. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  2. Kris Bryant, 3B
  3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  4. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  5. Jason Heyward, RF
  6. Miguel Montero, C
  7. Javy Baez, SS
  8. Brett Anderson, P
  9. Jon Jay, CF

As I hinted, Addison Russell is the notable absence from tonight’s lineup, with Javy Baez covering for him at shortstop. Regardless of Javy’s struggles or successes at the plate, having another defender of his caliber around to back up Russell at short is invaluable.

Jon Jay gets the increasingly rare start in center, as Almora and Jason Heyward’s combined time there have kept him out of the starting lineup for about a week. In addition, Miguel Montero draws yet another start, further showing – or so it seems thus far – that he’ll probably start a bit more than a regular back-up here in 2017.

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.

Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 3, Diamondbacks 2 – April 15, 2024

Un-be-lievable. That game went from snooze-fest to nail-biter in a HURRY. And I don't think I'm too far off base saying the Cubs got pretty lucky in that one. Not only were they able to tie the game in the...

Andrew McCutchen is an Extremely Elite Person

Hector Neris Has Had a Brutal Start to the Year – But What Can the Cubs Do?
