When the Chicago Cubs have an impending off-day, Joe Maddon likes to give his regulars the day-off, thereby getting two days off in a row.
And that’s exactly what he did today, because of the off-day tomorrow.
Here’s the Cubs lineup for the finale against the Brewers:
- Matt Szczur, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Willson Contreras, C
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Kyle Hendricks, P
- Jon Jay, LF

Each of Kyle Schwarber, Jason Heyward, and Ben Zobrist get the day off today, and they’re replaced on the field by Jon Jay in left, Matt Szczur in right, and Javy Baez at second base.
That also means that Szczur is your new leadoff hitter and Addison Russell is your new clean-up hitter. The pitcher, Kyle Hendricks, bats eighth and everyone else falls into place. If I’m remembering correctly, I believe Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are now the only two Cubs to have started in every game of the season.
As usual, we’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
