Perhaps prompted by an incredible catch yesterday, or his own wormhole nerdery (said with love, because I get lost down many nerd wormholes myself), Michael sent me this graphic earlier today for sharing:
Addison Russell does good defense.

And, sure enough, Michael’s graphic story checks out (that … does not read as I intended): in the early going among positional qualifiers, only Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor (6) has more Defensive Runs Saved than Addison Russell, who is tied with Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain.
It’s obviously very early in the going, and these numbers are presented almost exclusively as “fun” rather than “informative,” but Russell also leads the NL in shortstop UZR/150 right now.
The noted Pokémon enthusiast probably got a boost to his overall defensive metrics with the aforementioned excellent catch yesterday:

Just another day of work for the Cubs’ 23-year-old shortstop, who is also striking the ball with quite a bit of authority this season.
