Every once in a while a nationwide weather system so large appears that it can wipe out the Cubs’ entire minor league slate in one deluge of rain. This weekend may be setting up for that sort of an event. If the weather maps are to be believed, the entire Midwest is scheduled to be soaked this weekend, with rain totals breaking six inches in some areas. Iowa, Tennessee, and South Bend are likely to be impacted. Myrtle Beach is safely out of the way, but the Carolina League is largely coastal, so rainouts are always a risk for the Pelicans.

Nothing is certain, of course, but don’t be surprised if we do not have a whole lot of minor league action this weekend.
