The Cubs managed to win one without their regular starting crew yesterday, which would have felt more like a “they stole one” if it hadn’t gone 13 innings and required appearances from all the regulars eventually anyway.
In any case, hopefully everyone rested up.

Here’s the Cubs’ lineup against the Yankees today:
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Hendricks, P
- Jon Jay, CF
The regulars are all back, and Jon Jay keeps it going in center field. The guy is currently hitting .362/.464/.447 in spot duty (57 PAs), as Joe Maddon maximizes match-ups. Although I think even Maddon couldn’t predict – or expect to last – that .472 BABIP. Although it’s interesting: Jay has always been a high BABIP guy (.342 for his career) despite not having blazing speed.
Michael Pineda has no meaningful career splits versus righties and lefties, so the balanced lineup today is what you should expect.
As usual, we’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time (1:20pm CT). In the meantime, read up on the return of former Cub Starlin Castro.
