Alright, Cub fans. It’s a new night, and anything is possible at Coors Field. Let’s see if these Chicago Cubs can erase the bad taste in our mouth with some dingers in Colorado (if the rain holds up, that is).
Here’s the Cubs lineup against the Rockies:
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Kris Bryant, RF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Miguel Montero, C
- Tommy La Stella, 3B
- Javy Baez, SS
- Jake Arrieta, P
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
As expected, Willson Contreras gets the night off after literally catching two games worth of innings last night in Chicago. Miguel Montero, naturally, takes his place. Given how well he’s been hitting lately, the opposing starter’s splits, and how much more difficult it is to catch Jake Arrieta, this all worked out as well as it could.
As was slightly unexpected (but very welcomed) Anthony Rizzo is back in the lineup at first base tonight. In my experience, that’s generally a very good sign, but Brett has more experience, so we’ll go with cautious optimism for now.
With Tommy La Stella returning from Iowa, he immediately gets thrust into the lineup at third base. Kris Bryant, then, heads out to right field, as Jason Heyward appears to still be nursing an injury and Ben Zobrist is playing second. Javy Baez is also back in the lineup and covering shortstop for Addison Russell (another good sign, given that it looked like he may have been playing through some pain last night too).
A lot of lineup changes today, but maybe that’s just what they need. As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
