There was a time in the not-so-distant past that Anthony Rizzo was going through one of his deepest slumps as a big leaguer. It was short-term, and not necessarily anything to be concerned about, but it was definitely deep.
Well, he’s probably out of it now anyway.
Through two at bats tonight, Rizzo has seen just three pitches, and he sent two of them over the wall. Each was wrecked at over 100 mph, and it’s fair to say he’s seeing lefty Matt Moore very well tonight.
You can see the first homer here at Cubs.com, a yanked liner shot down the right field line that hit the small video panel out that way.
The second homer (full video here at Cubs.com) was even more impressive, as it was 108 mph and 432 feet … on a cold night into the wind:

That was just destroyed.
Rizzo now has 11 homers on the season, and at the very moment of this writing has his slash line up to .234/.369/.467 (119 wRC+). He’s trending very strongly in the right direction, which is what you would expect all along from Rizzo.
Now let’s see if he can make it three homers later in the game …
