Reds Claim Jake Buchanan Off of Waivers from Cubs

Chicago Cubs

Earlier this week as part of the bullpen carousel, the Cubs designated pitcher Jake Buchanan for assignment so that they could clear up a 40-man roster spot to bring up Zac Rosscup (who was optioned back to Iowa the next day).

Buchanan was then put on waivers, and has now been claimed by the Reds. So he’s theirs.

Buchanan, 27, was one of the Cubs’ many depth starting pitchers, but had been struggling at AAA Iowa this year. Given the presence of guys like Eddie Butler, Mike Montgomery, Brett Anderson (when he returns), Alec Mills, Seth Frankoff (who’s been pitching well), and more, the odds the Cubs would absolutely need starts from Buchanan were low.

Best of luck to him with the Reds. Well, I mean, not too much luck. But, you know what I mean.
