If top Chicago Cubs prospect Eloy Jimenez hit a homer and a single in a game, that would be a fine outing. If that homer was a grand slam and the single drove in a run, all the better.
But Jimenez took that to the next level last night for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, because he did it all in the first inning.
Here’s the grand slam, which is skied into the air and just keeps going (via @PelicanBaseball):

Obviously it’s very short out that way to left, and Jimenez’s fly ball there probably travelled only about 330 feet. But isn’t that still impressive? It was basically a sky high pop up for him and it still went 330 feet.
Bonus, I like that the pitcher helpfully pointed out where the ball was:
It’s up there, guys.
As I said, Jimenez went on to add an RBI single in the inning, during which the Pelicans scored 11(!) runs. He’s hitting .344/.432/.625 so far on his young season, and has just five strikeouts despite also having five walks.
