Enhanced Box Score: Dodgers 4, Cubs 0 – May 27, 2017

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs couldn’t get going against Alex Wood, who had nasty stuff working. He’s been great all year, and the Dodgers clearly have done an excellent job working with and refining his mechanics since picking him up from the Braves.

Pedro Baez and Chris Hatcher took the final four innings, and it was more of the same for the Cubs’ bats, which were wholly silent after taking the trip out west. Hopefully they come back refreshed today.

On the pitching side, I thought Jake Arrieta looked really good in three innings I was able to make it for (sorry, not sorry – Eastern Time zone and an infant). He struck out nine and walked just one, but once again got touched up by the long ball. It seems like it was the same story it’s been for him this year: pitches well, but the few mistakes he makes up in the zone get punished. The two homers and the Yasmani Grandal double all came on pitches on the outer third, but all were belt high.
