Boo, Cubs fans! For shame! What have you done!?!?!?
I kid, of course. But in the latest round of All-Star Game balloting just released by MLB, one of the Cubs’ previously-held spots is no longer held by a Cub:
Second NL @esurance #ASG ballot update:
1B Zimmerman
2B Murphy
3B Bryant
SS Seager
C Posey
OF Harper, Blackmon, Heyward pic.twitter.com/ImC1TsXTDy— MLB (@MLB) June 5, 2017
It’s great to see Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward still holding down their spots, but where’s Anthony Rizzo, who was at the top at first base when the first round of results were released?
Well, he’s slipped just slightly behind Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who is admittedly having an absurd start to the season (his 194 wRC+ is highest in the NL, and trails only injured Angels star Mike Trout overall). If Cubs fans want to see Rizzo get that spot, they’ll have to get voting.
Elsewhere in the latest round of votes, the Cubs have several other guys close, including Willson Contreras (2nd place), Javy Baez (2nd), Addison Russell (3rd), Ben Zobrist (4th in the outfield, just behind Heyward), and Kyle Schwarber (6th in the outfield).
