Whew. A win today secured a winning homestand for the Cubs, put them back at .500, and generally saved my Sunday evening.
The Cubs jumped out to a big lead in the first inning when the first four batters reached, and Ben Zobrist capped things off with a three-run homer. Jake Arrieta pitched reasonably well with that lead for four innings before the wheels came off in the fifth and he couldn’t finish out the frame.
Fortunately, the Cubs added three more runs from there on back-to-back Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber homers and then a Miguel Montero homer.
Cubs win!
