The 2015 and 2016 Chicago Cubs had a magical way of turning things around on a dime when it seemed like things were about to go very, very wrong.
Maybe some of that is a story we tell ourselves after the fact, but I can recall numerous instances of talking people down here at the site only to find that the team did some amazing thing the very next night, and then for a week thereafter.
The 2017 Cubs, it seems, have the opposite ability. Whenever they show a spark – when something, or a short stretch of somethings, very cool happens, they immediately find a way to totally and completely dispirit all of us.
So it was tonight, after it looked like they would continue the fun of last night, with Anthony Rizzo hitting ANOTHER leadoff homer, and Ian Happ following him with a back-to-back shot! And Kyle Schwarber hitting an absurdly monster homer to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead!
And then the biggest six inning thud you’ve ever seen.
The story of the 2017 Cubs so far.
