Look at that! A series win on the road. The Cubs haven’t done that … since the last time they played in Pittsburgh, which was all the way back in April. Yo.
John Lackey pitched well enough in this one, allowing only one solo homer (obligatory) through six innings of work. As a strike-thrower, he’ll still get you outings like that when the ball finds gloves. He can still strike some guys out, and he’ll generally give the offense a chance. Like we said after his last start, you just kind of have to hope that’s what Lackey can be for the Cubs this year.
Speaking of the offense, it showed up in this one from the word go – which, lately, has been Anthony Rizzo. Another leadoff plate appearance, and yet another time reaching base for Rizzo.
Rizzo also homered late in the game, notching the 150th bomb of his career.
Admittedly, I wasn’t able to watch this one too closely today, because I was playing some Father’s Day baseball with the kiddos. Worth it.
