A moment to offer additional praise for History’s Greatest Leadoff Hitter, Anthony Rizzo.
Last night, for the sixth straight game in the leadoff spot, Rizzo reached base to open things up. Having already showed the ability to go for extra bases or take a walk, Rizzo decided to have a little fun this time around, taking advantage of the shift in the way only a truly elite leadoff man could.

The best part is Rizzo’s reaction after reaching first base, practically having to bury his face in his jersey to avoid betraying the sheer joy he’s feeling in having pulled that off.
After going 2-3 on the night with that single and a triple, Rizzo’s slash line on the year is up to .268/.397/.520, with a 138 wRC+. Since moving into the leadoff spot, he’s gone .440/.464/.960 with a 253 wRC+. Just keep riding it.
