Although yesterday’s loss was quite a bummer, we did get the good news that the Cubs’ first first-round pick, Brendon Little, had agreed to terms on a contact! Hooray!
According to Jim Callis, Little signed with the Cubs for a slightly-under-slot, but still quite healthy, $2.2 million signing bonus. You can read much more about Little and his deal with the Cubs in last night’s post here.
The Cubs have still not signed their second first-round pick, Alex Lange (whom we got to know here), who is pitching in the College World Series, but they have made a ton of progress on many of their other picks.
In fact, the Chicago Cubs just announced a flurry of signings, and here’s the to-date list of the newest Cubs prospects:
That’s 14 draft picks signed so far (ten of whom are right-handed pitchers), with plenty more to go. We’ll update the Cubs’ bonus pool situation when we have a complete picture of the signing bonuses.
The biggest fish left, of course, will be the 30th overall pick, Lange. The slot value for his pick is $2,184,300, but now that the Cubs have gone under on Little, they’ll have some more room to maneuver if necessary. There shouldn’t be a problem getting him on board, it’s just a matter of timing.
